Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 Review by Abby Anderson

My Overall Rating:

Available on Amazon for $133.95

The knife is one of the most important tools in the kitchen. It cuts meat, fruits and vegetables, allowing cooking to be an easier experience (have you ever imagined life without knives?)

When it comes to knives, there are a lot of brands to choose from. Of course, the best ones are so expensive that you may need to spend at least a full month’s salary on one set.

I always suggest checking out the prices at Amazon.com. Click here to see if the Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 is on sale right now.

I’ve had a couple sets of kitchen knives over the years, and I like the Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 18-Piece Knife Block Set for a couple of reasons.

First, I like the fact that it really is a complete set. Some knife sets claim to be complete but it doesn’t even include a bread knife. This set from Chicago Cutlery has a 3- and 3-1/2-inch parer, 5-inch boning, 5-1/2-inch utility, 7-inch serrated bread, and 7-inch Santoku knife. The set also includes 8-inch chef’s, 8-inch slicer, and 8 4-1/2-inch forged steak knives; shears; and block with sharpener.

The material used for each knife is high-carbon stainless-steel, making it last for a long time. Some people complain that the handles are too thick, but this is really a matter of taste. If you prefer thick handles, you’ve got the perfect set of knives here but if you prefer the thin ones, you can always go with Shun although those cost much more.

Also, the knives can’t be washed in the dishwasher. They have to be washed by hands for proper care. Although paper-thin slices are achievable with these knives, they need a couple of swipes through the built-in knife sharpener (which I absolutely love, by the way).

TIP: Make sure you look at all of the various kitchen knives and read user feedback. The bestsellers are a great place to start looking. This utility knife is ONE bestseller. But if you’d rather see a whole list click here instead

Are these professional knives? I wouldn’t say that. Don’t get me wrong, these are absolutely great knives but they’re not the use-for-restaurant type. They’re great for a home kitchen though, plus they don’t cost as much as the other great knife sets you see in the market.

Do I recommend these? Yes if you’re looking for a set you can use at home. Would I buy them again? Yes, in a heartbeat.

Let’s take a peek on the kitchen knife reviews to know its pros and cons

Pros:
  • No rust problem
  • Very sharp
  • Thick handles
  • The blades and handles are perfectly match
Cons:
  • Steak knives should be serrated. The steak knives in this set are basically long paring knives
  • It will rust when wash with a dishwasher.

Let me show you what the current owner of this product has to say:

Customer review from Duncan Idaho,

I received these knives 4 days ago. I immediately unpackaged and began to use them. They arrived well packaged and in good condition. I have used all but the steak knives on multiple occasions daily. I also read the literature accompanying the knives as well. This way I would not be surprised by doing something ignorant to the knives and ruining them. I have washed them by hand immediately after use and then dried them. I store them in the block for now, which by the way is a superior knife block.

Ok, the knives are great. They are a steal for this price. They cut well and feel wonderful in your hand. They are forged. As such their appearance is as that of a forged piece of high quality cutlery. These knives look wonderful. They were sharp out of the box and I have not had to sharpen them yet. I have used them on vegetables, meat, fruit, and all sorts of items while preparing meals. I look forward to preparing meals with this set. I actually try to make meals that require me to use them because they are truly that wonderful to use. This is definitely a high quality set of cutlery. I inspected and used some German cutlery and can say that these knives definitely hold their own against a set of German cutlery costing 300-500 dollars. If you are searching for a high quality set of cutlery and you are not wanting to spend 300 to 500 dollars to get them, these are a great set to choose.
